About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Automation Tester to join a large federal government digital transformation program. In this role, you’ll design, build, and execute automated test suites across multiple layers (UI, API, and integration) to ensure high-quality, reliable software delivery.
You’ll work closely with developers, business analysts, and delivery teams in an Agile environment, driving test automation maturity and supporting CI/CD pipelines.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts for UI, API, and regression testing.

  • Collaborate with developers to implement test-driven development (TDD/BDD) practices.

  • Design reusable test frameworks and support continuous testing in CI/CD pipelines.

  • Perform functional, integration, regression, and performance testing as needed.

  • Identify, log, and manage defects through resolution, providing clear documentation.

  • Contribute to test strategy, planning, and reporting to stakeholders.

  • Mentor team members in automation best practices and tools.


Required Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years’ experience in test automation in enterprise environments.

  • Proficiency with test automation tools such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or similar.

  • Strong experience in API testing (Postman, REST Assured) and scripting with JavaScript, Java, or Python.

  • Hands-on experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps).

  • Solid understanding of Agile methodologies and BDD frameworks (Cucumber, Behave).

  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills, with a focus on root-cause analysis.

  • Excellent documentation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.


Desirable (Nice to Have)

  • ISTQB or equivalent test certification.

  • Experience with performance testing tools (JMeter, Gatling).

  • Familiarity with containerised test environments (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Knowledge of Australian Government security and compliance frameworks.
